Frequently asked questions

How far is the meeting point from the cruise pier?

The meeting point is a short 5-minute walk from the two main piers. Ask port officials for the Art Nouveau Museum or use your phone—the meeting point is directly across the street by a large bronze statue of a young man with a hat and a rope. Lukas is happy to help if you need more information.

Will we get back to the ship in time?

The tour ends about a 10–15 minute walk from the ship. Guests on the 10:00 AM tour can be back by 12:15 PM at the latest, and those on the 1:30 PM tour by 3:45 PM. For private tours, the schedule can be adjusted freely.

What happens if my ship arrives late or leaves early?

If the ship arrives late (which is unlikely), the tour start time can be easily adjusted. Most guests come from the same cruise ship, so any delay affects everyone equally. There’s enough buffer built in on my side to handle this comfortably and stress-free. If a major change makes the tour impossible, a refund can be arranged without any problem. In my experience, ships have never departed earlier than scheduled.

How much walking is involved during the tour?

The tour covers about 3 km (1.8 miles) over roughly 2 hours at a relaxed pace, with stops at landmarks along the way. You don’t need to be an athlete—there are plenty of benches along the route (one even heated!) where you can rest and enjoy the view. Just wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the walk, keeping in mind that Norway has hills, stairs, and uneven ground.

What makes this tour different from other tours in Ålesund?

My tours are small and personal, with a maximum of around 10 guests, so we can take our time, chat, and explore Ålesund together. With a degree in art history and years of self-taught research, I share stories and insights about the city’s architecture, history, and culture—and I love answering any questions along the way. There’s no formal lecture here, just a relaxed two-hour walk full of genuine curiosity, conversation, and fun, giving you the best experience and value for your time in Ålesund.
