Time Travel at Sunnmøre Museum

Sunnmøre Museum consists of over forty historic buildings and several traditional boats. By using authentic props such as drinking horns, wooden buckets and wild flowers, we were able to create scenes that felt both authentic and timeless. Each image became like a small window into another era.

As a photographer, it’s all about balancing the model and the environment. Flowers against old wood and traditional jewellery against neutral fabrics create contrasts that the camera captures well. Close-ups show the texture of the fabric and the grain of the wood, while full-length shots convey the feeling of being in the middle of history.

A glimpse of the 17th century

In the 1600s, people in Sunnmøre lived off agriculture and fishing. Their clothes were simple, made of wool and linen, and the colours came from nature. The way clothes and surroundings blend together at the museum creates an authentic feeling – and makes photography more than just aesthetics. It becomes a story about everyday life, craftsmanship and connection to nature.

For photography in such surroundings, natural light and RAW format are recommended for maximum flexibility. Variation between full-length images and details – such as jewellery, flowers and textiles – creates a series that feels cohesive and vibrant.
