On 20 June 2026, Ålesund celebrated Slinningsbålet, one of Norway’s most spectacular Midsummer traditions. Built by hand by generations of young people, the enormous bonfire brings together locals and visitors to celebrate the height of summer. The towering structure was lit at 9 pm, creating an unforgettable spectacle at sunset against the backdrop of the surrounding fjords and mountains. A unique expression of local pride and community spirit, Slinningsbålet captures the heart of summer in Ålesund. It’s my favourite day of the year.
